Thank you Susan. The information is very helpful and informative. I know our MNA nurse reps are really working hard for us.We all need to be united for our profession and in our duty as advocates to our patients.

Can we at least drop the request for wage increase and fight to keep what we have and for better patient ratio? I think the large wage request makes us look bad to the public and gives ‘Maureen’ cause to call us greedy. WE ARE NOT!

The wage increase is a bargaining chip. Ask your MNA personnel to explain this. We may end up with little to no increase but in the meantime, we can use the wages as a bargaining tool. Also…the “war” will not be won in the media. We have to quit worrying about the public. Some are uninformed. Just trust the system and the honesty behind our MNA negotiators. And really, who cares what Maureen thinks anyway?

I would like to see Susan Mason or another well spoken nurse be the spokesperson for MNA. I believe that it would engage the public to be more sympathetic to our issues than seeing a non RN addressing them.
I also think it is time for MNA to be more aggressive in defending our position against the hospital’s allegations & doing so in the same traditional & primetime ways that the hospitals are. We are losing (or have lost) the public’s support. Now is the time to put our $$ out there to regain the public’s support.

Great job, Susan. Thanks for making the video and keeping us informed. For anyone who is interested, I transcribed the last 20 seconds of the video–it’s an important message: MNA IS willing to make changes to our proposal if it will get Twin Cities Hospitals (TCH) to be willing to make changes to THEIR proposal. Now that would be a negotiation! Here’s the quote from Susan’s video:

Susan Mason, MNA representative, speaking on video update from MNA office 6/15/10:

“…just to reiterate, your MNA teams are prepared to modify, delete, drop any proposal that we have made that will get us to a settlement. And you should know that. And rest assured that we will do whatever it takes. We want to bargain on your behalf and we want to come to a settlement. Thank you.”
